I have always been a Linux Mint/Cinnamon fan – for the past ten, at least. As of of this past Monday, even more so. This past November, I bought a brand spanking new laptop. The latest of the latest – thought I’d treat myself. Well, I tried to load on my favourite OS but when it was installed, I could not get WIFI working. Mint just did not want to find the WIFI. I tried a dozen or so of the other “biggies” but they were the same. PCLinuxOS was the only one nice enough to actually tell me that WIFI was not available. Ah, I believe it was a driver issue – too recent a driver – if that possible (cough, cough). This past Sunday, I read a write up on Linux Mint “Edge” and how it has the latest drivers for the latest chipsets, and guess what? I installed Mint Edge and everything works. I love it.

I would/have only used one of those top picks. Mint. Any top, best, or needed list of OS’s is totally subjective.
For me Debian based is essential. Also the Mate desktop is essential.
My picks, Ubuntu Mate, Mint Mate, Sparky semi-rolling Mate, Parrot Mate, Debian Mate and Spiral Mate in that order.

Old Computers and Netbooks: Bodhi Linux?

I’m not familiar with Bodhi. I like Anti-X for both Old Computers and for RAM-only (over Puppy).

About Pop!_OS!, I only know that it doesn’t even have a menu button that lists all its apps by category. The OS is not suppose to be getting in the way of user operations and this one does. It’s clunky and dumb.

It’s what we call “highly and aggressively opinionated” in the worst way.
